How TBIs happen
Traumatic brain injuries occur when impacts or violent movements jar the brain. Extreme incidents such as trucking accidents can cause the brain to crash against the inside of the skull, resulting in bruising, tearing of brain tissue, and bleeding within the brain. That bleeding can increase pressure in the skull, leading to further brain damage.
Because the brain is highly complex and governs much of our personality and physical health, brain injuries can have wide-ranging symptoms, particularly in cases involving severe trauma.
TBI symptoms to watch for
- Loss of consciousness lasting minutes or hours
- Clear fluid draining from the nose or ears
- Headaches
- Nausea and vomiting
- Seizures or convulsions
- Weakness or numbness in the limbs
- Trouble sleeping (insomnia) or excessive sleepiness (hypersomnia), as well as difficulty waking
- Poor coordination and impaired reflexes
- Confusion and disorientation
- Slurred speech
- Sudden changes in personality or mood (irritability or anger)
- Anxiety, depression, or a sense of impending doom
If someone you care about is experiencing any of these symptoms after a collision with a large truck or bus, it is important to contact an experienced trucking accident attorney as soon as possible. We can begin investigating your case promptly. And even if early tests have not yet revealed brain damage, your loved one may still be suffering a serious brain injury.
